Global Village - The following information is verifiably true for MacPPP that is included in the Internet Starter Kit for Macintosh, Third Addition.

All Models: To force slower connect speeds, add +MS=11,1,,
    example: +MS=11,1,2400,28800

    Teleport GoldII - Init = AT&F&C1&D0 or AT&F1

    Teleport GoldIIv - Init = AT&F1&C1&D0 or AT&F or AT&F1

    Telport Platinum 288 - Init = AT&F1
Later revisions of the Platinum modem use AT&F or AT&F1 There is also a bug (with earlier chip revisions) that causes ConfigPPP to say "PPP" down even when connected. The later versions of the modem fix this problem.

Teleport Bronze - This is a 2400 baud modem AT&F is the proper init string. I have contacted Global Village and have been told that their database does not contain any information about flow control, and they wondered if I meant baud rate. Global Village technical support (at least those with whom I spoke on the telephone) is EXTREMELY incompetent - I wouldn't waste my time or money contacting them.

This is a note that I received from an Internet user on 10/16/97 concerning the GV Teleport Platinum...

Below is a fix for the Global Village Platinum 33.6 dialing into a
Livingston PM3 with installed 56k modems.

    Problem Environment:
    PowerMacintosh 8500/120
    MacOS 8.0
    Open Transport 1.2
    Open Transport PPP 1.0.1
    Global Village Platinum 33.6 modem

Problem occurs with Global Village modem firmware:
    v1.513
    v1.511
    v1.5

    Symptom:
Modem goes thought negotiation process and into silence.
Open Transport states "Communicating at an unknown rate". Call eventually hangs up.

    Solution:
Updated Open Transport PPP script is required. It can be found at:
    ftp.globalvillage.com /pub/software/mac/GV_ARA_2.1_OTPPP.hqx
