SSC makes chipsets, not actual modems.

SSC never made modems. They made modem chipsets and sold the chips to other companies. SSC no longer makes modem chipsets. If you need drivers or updates for your modem, you need to figure out who actually made the modem. See note above... Note #3

This init string seems to work at least with 288 ssc chipsets:
Reset 1: AT&F&C1&D3\N6S7=60
The &D3 causes the modem to wait longer before dropping DTR Note #4
